Phase Three: Competitive Edge Programme听
Our Competitive Edge Programme is designed to help students develop these traits through meaningful experiences and exposure to real-world success stories.听
Year 10 鈥 Professional Skills Speaker Series
As part of our Competitive Edge Programme, Year 10 students will engage with six guest speakers throughout the year. Each speaker focuses on a key professional skill identified by local employers as essential for success in further education and employment. These include:听
- Organisation听
- Digital literacy听
- Critical thinking听
- Communication听
- Collaboration听
- Resilience听
Through these sessions, students gain valuable insights into how these skills are applied in real-world contexts, helping them build confidence and prepare for life beyond the classroom.听
During College Time students will explore these key skills and put them into practice. This ranges from planning their own trip away, writing professional emails to local employers and working with local charities.
FirstGive Programme
Towards the end of Year 10, students will work in teams to put their professional and competitive skills to the test through a series of real-world challenges. This culminates in their participation in the First Give Programme, a nationally recognised initiative that empowers young people to make a positive difference in their communities.听
As part of First Give, students will:听
- Partner with local charities to understand the issues affecting their community听
- Develop public speaking and presentation skills by preparing and delivering persuasive pitches听
- Collaborate effectively within their teams to research, plan, and advocate for their chosen cause听
- Compete for a 拢1,000 charity grant, awarded to the winning team鈥檚 charity based on the strength of their presentation and impact听
This experience not only reinforces key employability skills – such as communication, organisation, resilience, digital literacy, and critical thinking, but also instils a sense of civic responsibility and pride.听
Through First Give, students gain confidence, purpose, and a deeper understanding of how they can contribute meaningfully to society – giving them a competitive edge as they prepare for life beyond school.听

Year 11 鈥 Next Steps & Careers Days We host three-day events to guide students through their post-16 and post-18 options:听
- Day One: Mock Interview Day 鈥 students will have a practice interview with a local employer to put their interview skills to the test. They will receive valuable feedback to take into any future interview.Day Two: Students meet with next step providers to explore pathways in further education, training, and employment. They get a taste of different courses try out some of the skills required.听听
- Day Two: A focus on careers and wellbeing, featuring keynote talks and hands-on workshops led by professionals from a wide range of industries and vocational backgrounds.听
These experiences ensure our students are informed, inspired, and equipped to make confident decisions about their futures.听
